MUSICAL THEATER SKILLS SUMMER WORKSHOP

Buddha’s Light Intl. Association (BLIA) Cebu Chapter, producers of the successful Siddhartha, The Musical, opens enrollment to its Musical Theater Skills Summer Workshop which starts on April 11 and ends with a Culminating show on May 21. This project jump starts BLIA Cebu’s efforts to bring into fruition the establishment of the Premier Musical Theater School in the country aimed at providing quality training and education to artists and offer scholarships for talented, underprivileged individuals in the Philippines. The infrastructure is designed to have its own theater building fully equipped with state of the art facilities geared with advanced technology. It is an endeavor that runs along the mission of the organization to nurture talents through education and benefit society through charitable programs.

The summer courses offered in this initial phase of the project are; Musical Theater for Children, Basic Musical Theater for teens and adults, Advanced Musical Theater for professional performers; Musical Theater Singing Group Classes for different age ranges; Basic & Advanced Broadway Jazz, Poi Dancing for Beginners and Advanced students (a dance form gaining popularity in theater acts); Basic and Advanced Stage Arts & Craft for children and adults; Violin for Beginners and Intermediate students.

Artistic/Training Director, Daisy Ba-ad, leads the training team composed of vocal trainer, Rhea Mae Sadaya, theater artist Edison Saynes, poi expert Zero Nunez from Fire Attraction, and Cebu Music Learning Center’s trainers for dance, violin and stage craft. Modules are designed to equip the students with the skills, aptitude and competence required in musical theater performance while practicing values that help purify the heart and mind of participants.

To attain its goal , Project Officers, Susan Tantiansu, Susan Tan, Erwin Go and Ben Chua under the supervision of Masters Chue Lin and Master Ru Xin has mobilized the BLIA Young Adult Division (BLIA-YAD) to form the working team closely coordinating with Ba-ad, who also serves as the Creative Training Consultant for BLIA’s Musical Theater School Project. BLIA-Cebu intends to offer 3-month Musical Theater Skills workshop throughout the year to provide continued training for artists while continually raising funds for the scholarship program and construction of the school.

Interested parties may call 2538144 for workshop details or proceed to Chu’un Temple at V. Rama Ave, Cebu City for enrollment starting March 14 between 10am – 4pm Monday through Saturday. BLIA-Cebu also invites organizations, companies and art patrons to join the program by sending scholars to the summer training course and have the scholarship named after them or their respective organization or company.
